In the winter of 2004, SoCO, with the support of KPMG and our volunteers, published Our Treasure, our first photography book showing 29 local children living in poverty and an Exhibition was held. The event raised public awareness and drew the government’s attention to transgenerational poverty. Mr. Tung Chee-hwa, GBM, the then chief executive of HKSAR, announced policies to end transgenerational poverty. He also launched initiatives to support the education of underprivileged children through government funds as part of the government’s anti-poverty efforts for children. Ten years later, 16 of them aged from 10 to 25 stood out again to tell their growing-up stories, which made this new book Our Treasure II.
With this publication Our Treasure II, we hope to share with the public the bitter sweet moments of our children living in poverty, arouse public’s concern and understanding towards those children and in the end, the problem of transgenerational poverty could be tackled seriously.
